Pilates is an exercise programme designed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. As a method of exercise Pilates focuses on restoring the body to its natural balance and alignment by creating a stable core. The stable core is created by engaging the deep lying abdominal muscles, shoulder and back stabilisation in co-ordination with your breathing. A stable core is essential for good posture and control of your body.
Pilates is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, ability or experience.

Pilates promotes body awareness and is useful for those who have postural or mobility issues that can result in pain or discomfort. Pilates can help people with neck, back, hip or shoulder problems and can be practiced by pre and post natal women.
Pilates is the ideal counter balance to many sports and activities as the world of health and fitness now recognises that the only true basis for physical development and improvement stems from a strong centre. Pilates is a complementary practice for athletes promoting the health of joints through improved mobility and stability which is thought essential for improved performance and injury prevention.
The clinic offers tailored 1:1 clinical pilates in addition to group matwork. The group matwork is run on a progressive course basis with limited numbers and a hands on personal approach. All sessions are 1 hour long and are practical in nature. You will also be taught your own program to progress at home between sessions with the practitioner.
