Derek gained his Bsc (Hons) Degree in podiatry in 2005 at the Wales centre of Podiatric Studies, UWIC, Cardiff. He initially worked in the NHS before travelling and working abroad.

Derek gained his Bsc (Hons) Degree in podiatry in 2005 at the Wales centre of Podiatric Studies, UWIC, Cardiff. He initially worked in the NHS before travelling and working abroad.
Derek worked as a podiatrist for the health service in North Queensland, Australia treating a wide range of lower limb conditions, as well as consulting some indigenous aboriginal patients.
Since returning back to the UK in 2008 he has worked as a senior community podiatrist for North Somerset PCT treating high risk patients with diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and neurological conditions.
As a clinician he has a keen interest in injuries of a biomechanical origin and is currently studying for a Masters Degree in Musculoskeletal Studies of the lower limb. He works closely with the physiotherapy team to help patients with foot and lower limb biomechanical issues.
He is also a keen sportsman enjoying playing football and regular trips to the gym. As well as this he enjoys long distance running having completed the Paris marathon in 2009 and is now aiming to complete his next marathon towards the end of this year.
